Performances: 1 January 2003 - St James, Auckland & 12 January, Waihiki Island near Auckland

Hey y'all!

(Unfortunately
J) I am back from my NZ trip. It was absolutely great. NZ is a very beautiful country with very friendly people. And meeting Lucy twice was absolutely fantastic. It was a trip I will never forget. It was so great that I intend to travel there again next year (if possible).

I was at both concerts (Auckland and Waiheke Island). The concert in Auckland was in the St James Theatre in the center of Auckland (in the main shopping street). I was walking around the theatre approx. 2 ½ hours before it started as I hoped to see her and get an autograph, but Lucy must have been already in the theatre or I somehow missed her. Funny was that nobody was standing at the back door to get a glimpse of her or to get an autograph. I thought that some people would do that. I have not seen one Xenite which does not mean that there was no one there, but nobody with a t-shirt or anything else that would have identified him or her.

After Anika Moa (who was very funny when talking to the crowd) and Dave sang some very good songs, Lucy came out and was singing along with Dave. She was wearing green tank (?) pants and a brown top (sleeveless). She looked really cool in this outfit. Her hair was long and her pony (bangs/fringe) was put back with a hair clip. During the concert she put her hair up (but only for a short time). She sang 3 or 4 songs by herself and she was absolutely fantastic - WOW, what a great voice! Some guys in the front were shouting (sometimes) Lucy, Lucy... I didn’t want to stand in the first row (directly in front of the stage) as you had to look up the whole time, so I stood about 5 meters away. There the ground was on the same level as the stage. The crowd was fantastic. Lucy’s mom was also there as Lucy was thanking or greeting her (I didn’t see her though).

I went on Waiheke Island with the intention to explore some places of the island, but as I didn’t know much about the island I decided to go the same way some other people who were on the same ferry went. I finally arrived at a restaurant/bar and guess what: there was this placard of the Summer Holiday Tour and the concert was supposed to start one hour later than I arrived. The decision, what to do on the island, was very easy. This concert was different as it was outside. It was in the backyard of the pub. There was a big stage, some sand in front of the stage and a meadow (the garden). They had a BBQ outside where you could get steak and other nice things. It was an atmosphere like a BBQ party. I really liked it! Lucy, Dave, Anika and the whole band suddenly came into the backyard talking with each other and running around (only some meters away from me). Lucy was wearing a jeans and a t-shirt and her cool sunglasses. Shortly before the concert started she went behind the stage were they had a table and chairs and were most of them sat (talking and laughing) shortly before the concert began (it was possible to see through the stage). The crowd was sitting on the meadow with blankets or at some tables and very few on the sand in front of the stage.

When Anika was on stage, Lucy was sometimes laughing about Anikas jokes and applauding for her good performance. This time Lucy wore a jeans and a white top (with sleeves). The hair was pretty much the same as at the concert in Auckland. She looked gorgeous that night (as always). The crowd was at first kind of shy, but that changed after a short while and the last half hour or so of the concert the crowd went in front of the stage (sitting and standing) and some people were dancing and everyone had great fun! Before the concert I didn’t want to disturb Lucy and I decided not to ask for an autograph, so I waited after the concert was over to perhaps get a chance, but after a while I had to leave as the last ferry was leaving and I had to go back to Auckland as my round trip started the next day. And guess what: suddenly, as I was standing in the queue to get on the ferry, some band members appeared, but not Lucy. When I already sat on my chair (outside, upstairs), suddenly Lucy and her daughter came upstairs and sat only some rows in front of me. Nobody was trying to get an autograph (only one man got one of Anika and Dave) and I was too shy and somehow embarrassed to go to her and ask her for an autograph as there were some bodyguards, her daughter and some other friends and as Lucy was talking with some people. I sat there thinking: Are you going to ask her or not? It was approx. 5 – 10 min. before we reached Auckland and I plucked up all my courage and finally stood up and went to one of her bodyguards (a young, strong and tall man with very short hair) and kindly ask him if it is possible to ask Lucy for an autograph (I thought it would be nicer to ask the bodyguard if I may do so), but as you all already know he said: No, sorry,. I totally respect that. Therefore, I send my ticket of the Auckland concert (with an addressed and stamped envelope) to her agent and kindly asked if she could sign it and send it back to me. I hope that I will get it back. I have to wait and see...
