LUCY LAWLESS KEEPS VIGIL AT SICK DAD'S BEDSIDE

Auckland, March 19 NZPA - Actress Lucy Lawless has been at the hospital bedside of her father this week, after he fell into a coma following a cancer operation.

Former Mt Albert mayor Frank Ryan, 73, was diagnosed with stomach cancer a few weeks ago.

Mr Ryan was transferred from the general care ward to Auckland City Hospital's critical care ward, when he fell into a coma.

Auckland Hospital duty manager Kaloni Avidi said Mr Ryan was comfortable today.

Ms Avidi said the family did not want any further information about Mr Ryan's condition made public. Lawless returned to New Zealand two weeks ago, forgoing the Oscars to take part in a charity ball for Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital.
