'Brother' tops Outfest

Helmer Rodney Evans' pic "Brother to Brother" snagged the grand jury and audience awards for narrative feature at the 22nd edition of Outfest. The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival concluded Sunday with the kudos and a screening of "Straight-Jacket" at the John Anson Ford Amphitheater.

"Six Feet Under" thesp Lauren Ambrose (news), Martha Plimpton, Lucy Lawless, Judith Light and scribe Kevin Williamson helped present the 16 awards and cash prizes totaling $6,000.

Tennyson Bardwell nabbed the fest's largest cash award, $5,000 courtesy of HBO, for his first feature "Dorian Blues."

"Brother" thesp Roger Robinson took home the grand jury acting prize.

In a tie, thesps Robin Greenspan and Lacie Harmon each received the Grand Jury lead actress award for their performances in "Girl Play," a pic they also penned. The film also garnered the audience award for lesbian narrative feature.

Fest featured 220 films and videos from 22 countries, exhibited in nine venues over 12 days.

HBO Outstanding First Narrative Feature "Dorian Blues" (Director: Tennyson Bardwell)


Outstanding Lesbian Narrative Feature "Girl Play" (Director: Lee Friedlander)
