Woman's Day (27 September 2021) Lucy Interview Reveals More About "Top Secret" Project with Renee

ImageThis week's NZ Woman's Day has an interview with Lucy. It covers My Life is Murder and how Lucy wants to "disappear" from the screen and go behind the scenes. This is where she talks more about her "top secret" project. The project (has no name yet) consists of her producing and directing the "it". Lucy will team up with Renee O'Connor and that's about all we know.

Here's what we know:

Lucy is Producing and Directing
It involves Renee O'Connor
Lucy is making this happen in the US
Not a drama

The "Top Secret" Project was first brought up in the NZ Woman's Weekly 20 September 2021 Issue (you can read about it here: NZ Woman's Weekly: Lucy and Renee Planning on Working Together In "Top Secret" Project)

In the NZ Woman's Day 27 September 2021 Issue we get a little more about the "Top Secret" Project and why Lucy wants to do it. She's in the US at the moment for this mysterious project:

"As for Rob, he won't be joining Lucy as she braves the pandemic and heads to Los Angeles to go hell for leather in the direction of her latest dream, a top-secret project she's producing and directing. "I'm really excited. It's something very new for me - not a drama but very cool. There'll be no room for anything else in my life for a while, so my only other dream for this year is that I manage to get back home and out of MIQ by Christmas."

*MIQ is what the hotel quarantine system NZ has in place for returned travellers and tourists is called.

You can find the full interview in this week's Woman's Day (27 September 2021) issue.

Star Wars: Lucy Lawless May Have Lost Part in Franchise After Mandalorian Fancasting - Comicbook.com 29 September 2021

Lucy's was interviewed with ComicBook.com and it was released on 29 September 2021. Lucy discusses My Life is Murder and a little bit about her going behind the camera for her "Top Secret" project with Renee O'Connor. She also revealed that lost out on a role with Lucasfilm for a character in the Star Wars franchise - this info was originally from the Metro Intereview 27 September 2021.

More information about the "Top Secret" Project can be found here:

ImageNow to the interview and the revelation that maybe Lucy lost the gig with Lucasfilm for a role in the Star Wars galaxy because of the fans going into bat for her for the role of Cara Dune in the Mandalorian (I haven't watched the show so I had no clue who Gina Carano was or her role as Cara Dune).

Gina shared several controversial and anti-semitic posts on social media and got more attention that she bargained for. It ignited a firestorm (as it rightly should) Star Wars / Mandalorian fanbase and the fans called for her removal. She was terminated and the producers were going to recast the role. The fans wanted Lucy Lawless to get the role and this is where it may have backfired on Lucy who was in discussions with Lucasfilm for a role in the franchise at the time (not for the role of Cara Dune).

The following was posted on the comicbook.com site about the recasting and Lucy losing a role (not the Cara Dune role) which referenced the Metro Interview with Lucy where she mentioned about not getting the role with Lucasfilm:

In a recent interview with Metro , Lawless revealed that she had been in talks with Lucasfilm for a different role in the Star Wars galaxy, but that the offer might have fallen through due to the fan campaign.

"Well to be honest with you, I was already in discussions about something on - it wasn't The Mandalorian - something Star Wars-affiliated," Lawless revealed. "It might have hurt me in some way because then they couldn't hire me because it would seem to be pandering to... I'm just guessing here, I don't know anything, but in some ways, it can be unhelpful, because if they pander to this fan group, then how are you going to pander to every other fan group, do you know what I mean?"

"I became political and I had nothing to do with the discussion," she continued. "But that’s the way the world is and they meant it out of love, and I thank the fans for their fealty to me. I haven’t thought about that since, so it hasn’t given me any pain, but that was my thought at the time, like, ooh, this makes me look like a political appointment, and not an actress."

NZ Woman's Weekly: Lucy and Renee Planning on Working Together In "Top Secret" Project

The NZ Woman's Weekly (September 20, 2021) Issue has a nice article about Lucy and how her boys have grown up up and don't need her anymore. She has more time to branch out to do other things. Buried in the middle of the article is something that will make every Xenite heart flutter.

"Lucy's next adventure will see both her and Renee heading to Los Angeles, where they'll be working on a top secret project that Lucy is, for the first time, producing and directing. It's a prospect she is both excited and nervous about, but she is welcoming the challenge because her 50s are a bolder time."

Bring it on and let the guessing begin. The NZ Women's Weekly is on sale now in NZ.

AUSXIP Charity Auction Ends With a Bang + Renee Message to Fans About The Auction

My goodness, that was one heck of a ride for 4 days! I'm beyond stoked with the results as is The Starship Foundation and Renee O'Connor / House of Bards Theatre Company. The bidding wars were FIERCE (I love bidding wars, as long as I'm not in them) and I almost fell off my chair (in excitement) at the numbers coming up on screen.

One of my favourite quotes is from Helen Keller:

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.

What can you say about this incredible fandom that we don't all know? 26 years of an incredible fandom, 15 years of amazing support for the AUSXIP Charity Auction and the outcome is ABSOFRIGGINLUTELY gobsmackingly jaw dropping. It takes a village.

Hyperbole? Nope...look at the numbers of the total amount raised (does not include donations / rounding up): $24,355.64

Breakdown of the figures:

The Starship Foundation: $15,851.64
The House of Bards Theatre Company: $8504.00

That, my friends, is one hell of a lot of money in 4 days.

instagramand now for Renee's message of support for the Xenaverse, AUSXIP and the auction posted on her Official Real Renee O'Connor instagram account

Thank you Xenaverse for your continued philanthropy. You have been changing lives, including mine, for over 20 years.
Thank you to the organizers from @ausxip, especially Mary D and Anne who have been on the administrative side of this giant undertaking, including collecting and storing donations!
And Xenites, thank you for your response for the House of Bards Theatre Company, which has been sadly dormant, since its premiere production of Macbeth. Our production of Macbeth closed and the pandemic began. This donation is an important step for me to reintroduce what is possible for presenting Shakespeare and classical works to our community.
@houseofbardstheatreco

Thank you again, Mary D and all who bid on the donations. Can’t wait to see who won my Sunflower painting!! ??????
