GLOBAL SUPERSTARS LEND SUPPORT TO CHARITY CHRISTMAS ALBUM
JUSTIN BIEBER TO APPEAR IN TV CAMPAIGN FOR STARSHIP
The Starship Foundation today announced the release of the star-studded Starship Christmas album 2012, and that Justin Bieber, one of the world's most influential entertainers will appear in the TV commercial to promote the release.
The star is a global leader in the fields of music and entertainment. Only 18 years old, he has sold over 15 million albums, is ranked 3rd most influential celebrity in the world for 2012 by Forbes magazine, and is adored by millions of fans around the planet.
Music industry veteran Paul Ellis worked in conjunction with Universal Music and The Starship Foundation to develop The Starship Christmas Album 2012 and says "Justin Bieber is one of the most powerful celebrities in the world. To have him support this album, generously provide one his tracks for it, and lead the television campaign to promote the album is truly incredible. We're very grateful to him, his management and his record label Universal Music for their amazing support of Starship and this project."
Bieber shot footage for the television commercial at Starship during his high profile visit to the national children's hospital earlier this year. While the visit was leading news, the shoot for the TV commercial was shrouded in the strictest secrecy. Only Ellis, Starship Foundation staff and a small TV crew were allowed to attend the filming. Ellis says "Bieber was a delight to work with."
The commercial will debut in November to support sales of the Starship Christmas Album 2012.
Along with Bieber the debut album features some of the biggest names in the music industry including Queen, Lady Gaga (featuring Space Cowboy), Elton John, Ronan Keating, Hayley Westenra, Michael Jackson, Maroon 5, Adeaze, The Jackson Five, Tiki Taane, OneRepublic, and Lucy Lawless. All the artists have all generously provided their recordings royalty free to support Starship.
Starship Foundation CEO Brad Clark says "Starship is our national children's hospital and every day its extraordinarily talented staff do extraordinary things to look after our precious children when they need it most. The proceeds from this album will help support the amazing work they do for patients and their families. We're very grateful to the extraordinary lineup of artists who have generously contributed their music - they've already made this Christmas very special for Starship."
The Starship Christmas Album 2012 will retail for $16.00 with all profits going to the Starship Foundation. The album will be available on CD nationwide from November 19 through The Warehouse stores nationally, supporting music retailers and for digital download from www.umusic.co.nz.
In the meantime, pre-orders of the album can be made at www.starship.org.nz/music.
Ellis says "This is a great album for a great cause. We
hope New Zealanders enjoy it and make it the gift they give colleagues, friends
and family this Christmas."
