lucybag.jpgLast Thursday night the New Zealand Youth Delegation to Copenhagen held a celebrity bag auction as a farewell fundraiser for their trip to the UN talks on climate change next month.

The auction featured reusable shopping bags which were decorated by a range of famous New Zealanders who were keen to show their support.

The big names included actresses Robyn Malcolm, Lucy Lawless, and Sarah Thompson, Olympic Gold Medalists Barbara Kendall and Caroline Evers-Swindell, singer Che Fu, producer DLT, actors/comedians Rhys Darby and Dave Fane, Huffer's Dan Buckley, activist and producer Susi Newborn, and Mayor Bob Harvey.

There were also incredible bags decorated by talented local artists as well as other great donated items including jewellery, theatre tickets, wine, and more.

"Everyone had a really great night," said Chelsea Robinson, an 18 year old delegate from Waitakere. "The delegates and supporters got to know each other while enjoying some good food and music, and competing over who could take which bag home."

The event had a good turnout and raised a few thousand dollars towards getting the twelve delegates of NZYD to Copenhagen, and making sure they stay fed and warm.

"I'd like to thank all our supporters, including the great New Zealanders who helped make last night possible."

"Now we can focus on the journey ahead. On behalf of Kiwi youth we will be throwing everything we can at getting a fair, strong and binding global agreement on climate change in Copenhagen."

Most of the delegates are leaving on 30 November from Auckland airport.
